TOKENS AND WEIGHTS, 4th-6th centuries. Host coin a follis of Crispus, Caesar, 316-326. Weight of 1 Semissis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.18 g, 6 h), Antiochia, 325-326. FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Crispus to left. Rev. PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS / SMANTΓ Camp gate with two turrets and no doors; above, star. For coin type, RIC 64. Edge serrated. Attractive earthen highlights over a dark patina. Very fine.

The purpose of such serrated pieces is debated, however, their use as weights for solidi and semisses among the numerous evidently weight-standardized pieces of around 4 and 2 grams, respectively, is very likely.
